What distinguishes the Threshold team is their combination of humility and audacious thinking. Threshold can also think from the customer base’s perspective. I believe humble curiosity lets this happen.

Threshold's Bill Bryant on Remitly

We were drawn to Remitly by the mission-inspired, purpose-driven nature of the business: to radically transform the way over 200 million immigrants who work in one geography can send money to family, friends, and loved ones living in their home countries. Remitly is that perfect combination of an amazing team, coupled with a disruptive approach to an enormous market that we at DFJ love to back. It isn’t often that a company can truly “do well by doing good” while striving to make the world a slightly better place.

Founder Matt Oppenheimer started Remitly to leverage technology to solve a big world problem and make an impact.

Partnership with Threshold

Threshold Ventures has been a long-term partner to Remitly, supporting the company across multiple stages of growth—from early funding rounds through its IPO. Partner Bill Bryant joined Remitly’s board in 2015, offering strategic guidance as the company scaled its international remittance platform. With a significant equity stake and board-level involvement, Threshold played a hands-on role in helping Remitly expand globally, launch new services, and mature into a publicly traded fintech leader.

I wanted to start my own company and make an impact. But I was looking for the right kind of problem where I could leverage technology to solve a big world problem.
